Jr Cabin Repair specializes in the staining and sealing of log homes. Log home exteriors, left unprotected, will break down with water and UV damage. As water gets into the fibers of the log, bugs are soon to follow. Needless to say, keeping the exterior of your logs sealed will retard this breakdown.
Before any finish is applied, the old finish (if any) must be removed as well as any decayed wood fibers and any mold spores and or fungus (“Stuff”). Should any of this “stuff” be left on when a finish is applied, a greenhouse effect will take place, The “stuff” will bake, the mold will feed on the wood and black mold will form that will eventually destroy the exterior of the logs.
See the section on Blasting vs staining your home. This is required cleaning and prep prior to applying stain.
There are many products on the market. We only use products from top companies and we only apply these stains and sealants under manufacturer specifications. We do not use "lesser brands" or cut corners. We use stains made by PermaChink, Weatherall, Woodguard and other stains from the best companies only. We will apply 1-2 coats of stain as per mfr specifications and then apply a clear top coat of sealant that helps the color coat last longer and helps shed water.
There are many colors and finishes available. The Doctor will help you select the one that is right for you and your house. You will have to have some color in the sealant. The color is what contains the pigmentation that helps block the harmful UV. Without a UV inhibitor, the logs will continue to break down even under a sealant.
